Product Support and Warranty
When Edmonton-based M.A.P. Group of Companies (M.A.P.) first purchased a Komatsu D65 dozer from SMS Equipment in 2005, like any astute buyer they based the decision on several factors
Leading the list were quality, pricing, and dependability. But the ‘must-have’ that continues to tip the scales is product support and warranty.
The decision to buy from SMS Equipment was based on parts availability, machine availability, and pricing, but the biggest factor was support
“We have a very short work period especially for water and sewer installations,” he explains. “They have just six to eight months in a year to work, so having equipment go down puts a big strain on the crew and the company.” Tony Matera, M.A.P. president, adds, “There’s been a lot of late night phone calls when a piece breaks down and we needed a replacement. We’ll call sometimes eight o’clock at night. And that evening or next morning we’ll have something to replace it.” He says it hurts financially when a piece is down and they can’t do the work, and it impacts their clients too.
SMS Equipment are very easy to deal with.
“They work with us in all situations—really helping us out. On the phone I can talk to them right away—that’s key. If we need a mechanic or part or even a piece of equipment I know I can call.”
