New Komatsu Distribution Centre Speeds Up Parts Delivery for SMS Equipment Customers

Komatsu marked the grand opening of its expanded distribution centre in Edmonton, Alberta, this month, bringing, industry stakeholders and company representatives to celebrate the milestone. The new operation increases Komatsu’s warehousing capacity, streamlines the flow of parts into Canada, and strengthens the support SMS Equipment provides to customers to keep their operations moving.

“Greater availability, shorter lead times and faster delivery of parts to our branches allows SMS Equipment to respond more quickly when our customers need parts, service or repairs.” - Shaun Bilodeau, SVP, Parts & Service

Formerly a regional parts depot, Komatsu’s Edmonton facility has been transformed into a full-service distribution centre and a strategic hub within the OEM’s North American logistics network. With warehouse capacity nearly doubled, it can accommodate a greater inventory of fast-moving parts while enabling more efficient supply routes from Komatsu’s global manufacturing centres in Japan and Indonesia.

The new operation also marks a long-term investment in Canada’s growing mining, construction and forestry industries.

“The new Edmonton parts distribution centre enhances our ability to deliver the right parts at the right time, helping customers stay productive while supporting future growth across Canada,” said Rod Bull, CEO, Komatsu North America, in a release about the centre’s opening.

For SMS Equipment, the expanded operation complements the parts inventory and distribution networks in place across our branches. Together with our technical expertise, the infrastructure strengthens the end-to-end support behind Komatsu machines so customers can get the most from their equipment.

“Expanded parts inventory across our supply chain means we can get customers the parts they need to always keep their equipment running and jobs on track,” says Bilodeau.

The new Komatsu distribution centre is now open in Edmonton. See Komatsu’s announcement for more details on the facility.
