This past September, racers laced up their runners for a good cause at the 4th annual Hearth ATTACK! – a 6km obstacle race through narrow trails, steep pasture and thick forest northwest of Edmonton. The race attracts participants from the Edmonton area and across Alberta who challenge themselves while helping to raise money in support of West Sturgeon People Aging in Place Foundation (WSAIP). This foundation is a non-profit organization that owns and operates West Country Hearth, a beautiful assisted living seniors’ complex located in Villeneuve, Alberta. Within West Country Hearth there is a wing named “Harmony Haven,” which is a secure unit that provides quality care for those who suffer with Alzheimer’s disease.

This year’s race attracted 350 participants and with the help of over 100 volunteers and sponsors like SMS Equipment, $35,000.00 was raised.

The money will go to the recent addition of Harmony Haven 2, which provides for an additional thirteen Alzheimer’s suites at West Country Hearth. West Country Hearth is located close to SMS Equipment’s Acheson office within the community of West Sturgeon.
