Accomplishing Big Goals On and Off the Ice
Often times it’s the big story that grabs the headlines. But just as important are the day-to-day contributions and stories of people like Patrick Cadieux and Jaime Young from SMS Equipment’s Head Office who work hard to make their community stronger.
They helped guide 15 young men, ages 9 and 10, through a successful hockey season that no one will ever forget. The team achieved success on the ice, finishing in 4th place of a 16 team league in the very competitive Edmonton Minor Hockey Atom AA division. They also won the Camrose Atom AA Tournament in November, finished 2nd at the Edmonton Minor Hockey Week tournament in January and placed 3rd in the prestigious West Edmonton Mall Family Day Classic in February. But it’s what they learned along the way that had the biggest impact. The team was given a rare opportunity to try their hand at sledge hockey against a local team. The game turned out to be more rewarding than anyone could imagine. It was both very humbling and exciting for these young players to realize hockey can be enjoyed in different ways and obstacles can be overcome.
Overall, the team had an excellent season where all players developed their skills, but more importantly they created lasting friendships and truly learned how to work together.
SMS Equipment is proud to have contributed to the KC Icemen hockey program and to support employees like Patrick Cadieux, Jaime Young and their families who lead by example and make a difference in our community on and off the ice.
