SMS Equipment appoints Robin Heard as CEO to succeed retiring CEO Mike Granger

On June 7th, 2021, SMS Equipment announced that CEO Mike Granger is retiring as of June 30th, 2021. Mr. Granger has been with SMS Equipment (and before 2010 with SMS Equipment's predecessor companies) for over 25 years. During that time, he oversaw the growth of SMS Equipment into one of the world's largest full-service equipment dealers.

"I have been proud to work alongside all our employees, customers, and business partners through an exciting journey from four Komatsu dealers in 2008 into one of the world's largest full-service dealers, covering coast-to-coast operations in Canada, Alaska, and Mongolia."

Since 2010, SMS Equipment has continued its development and growth of regional mining support centers in the oils sands, coal mining regions, Northern Quebec/Labrador and Ontario, and created a Remote Mining organization to serve remote locations, building on its reputation as the leading mining solutions provider across Canada. SMS Equipment has also brought on several new leading Construction Equipment brands, expanding its construction and forestry portfolios to make SMS Equipment Canada's premier coast-to-coast dealer in these sectors. The company's vision for new and innovative technologies has helped Canadian construction and mining customers achieve global leadership in areas such as autonomous haul trucks, delivering over 100 autonomous trucks operating in Canadian mines today.

SMS Equipment also announced that Robin Heard is appointed President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective July 1st, 2021; currently, Mr. Heard is President and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Mr. Heard has over 28 years of experience and has held senior executive roles in various industries, including machinery and equipment dealership, investment management, and power generation industries. He was the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for SMS Equipment from 2014 to 2017, oversaw finance and operations at Alberta Investment Management Corporation from 2017 to April 2020, and rejoined SMS Equipment in May 2020 as the Chief Operating Officer (COO). Mr. Heard has a CPA, CA designation and has an MBA with a marketing major.
