Responsibilities

In general, heavy equipment technicians:

  • Interpret work orders and technical manuals
  • Keep equipment cleaned, lubricated and maintained
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that the work done meets manufacturers' specifications and legislated regulations
  • Complete service reports

SMS Equipment recognizes the importance of investing in our future and supporting our trades people in their goal to reach journeyperson and/or certified technician status.

Our apprenticeship program provides hands on experience and the opportunity to work on challenging projects with industry experts. We work to provide balance for each apprentice in assisting them with planning their education and hours of work experience. 

Our certified technician program offers continuous training and development on the job.
